Benefits to Lamu and Community:

• Environmental Protection: To protect the sea life such as the fish, plant and wildlife.  By providing trash and recycling containers throughout Lamu along with regular pickups there will not be such a large waste buildup as well as preventing trash going into the seafront.
  
  
• Health:  To prevent malaria and other illnesses related to waste buildup and improper disposal.  In order to prevent improper disposal of trash, programs will be implemented within the community to educate and provide outreach to its residents, business owners and visitors on how best to care for one another and health.
  
• Jobs:  To create a job bank and teach youth job skills and ways to empower themselves.  The  cleaning of Lamu will provide jobs in sanitation while at the same time maintain Lamu as a Historial Heritage Site.   
  
  
• A recycling program will be implemented:  containers will be provided around Lamu to keep recyclable materials separate from trash.  Pickups will occur on a regular basis.  The recyclable materials will be turned into crafts and home furnishings.  Creating new items from the recycling will provide a sustainable practice for the youth to create jobs for themselves.
